Update: weather-related make up time

alarm clock

The Howard-Suamico School District will not need to make up school days because of inclement weather for the 2017-18 school year. Wisconsin school districts must provide instruction for a designated minimum amount of hours per school year based on minutes of instruction at each grade level — not days.

The District will need to make up time to meet the instructional minutes required by the Department of Public Instruction.

Beginning Monday, April 23 there will be five (5) minutes added to the beginning of the school day at Bay Port High School and Bay View Middle School. There will be 10 minutes added to the beginning of the school day at the elementary schools. There will be no additional minutes required at Lineville Intermediate School.

Bus pickup and drop off times will not change. The instructional minutes will be added to the beginning of the school day due to existing transportation schedules.

Additionally, the District is eliminating the grade K-4 early release May 18. Students will now be expected to attend a full school day. If families have scheduled plans for that afternoon, they can call the school office and excuse their child.

Summary:

  • Start time for Bay Port and Bay View will be 7:25 a.m. beginning Monday, April 23 through the end of the school year. Start time on Tuesdays will be 7:55 a.m.
  • Start time for elementary schools will be 8:35 a.m. beginning Monday, April 23 through the end of the school year.
  • Lineville start time will remain the same.
  • The grade K-4 early release May 18 is cancelled. May 18 will be a full school day for students.
